Park at Lock and Dam #14 Recreation Area parking lot and walk 1/2 mile to trail head. You must cross the auxiliary lock chamber to access the area.
Site Amenities and Recreation Opportunities:
Nature trail, restrooms with no water, picnic
tables and shelters, park benches, interpretive signage, canoe/kayak trail
head, bird viewing platform, and a shore fishing areas.

6:00 am - 10:00 pm
Special Closings and Special Events:
May be closed during times of flooding.
Natural Site Characteristics:
Nationally recognized Smith's Island Historical Nature Trail. Dwelling site of former inhabitants of the area. Low water marsh along the trail. Indigenous species of lowland forest habitats unique to the area.
Small areas of re-established prairie species in the recreation area itself.
Site Acreage:
Roughly 60 acres of forest and marsh.
Programming and infrastructure needs:
Trail is primitive with little development on the surfacing. Signage and other amenities do exist. Ample areas for fishing off the bank
